Miami Dolphins Team Game Photos and the Miami Dolphins NFL History

Miami Dolphins team football photos in gaming history. The Miami Dolphins kicked off their NFL journey in 1966 as an expansion team in the American Football League (AFL), thanks to owners Joe Robbie and Danny Thomas. They made their way into the NFL during the 1970 merger and solidified their place in history by achieving the only undefeated season ever in the league in 1972.

The Don Shula Era and The Perfect Season (1970s)

The franchise really took off when legendary head coach Don Shula joined in 1970. He crafted a powerhouse team featuring the famous "No-Name Defense" and a strong rushing game, leading Miami to three straight Super Bowl appearances. Perfect Season (1972): The Miami Dolphins finished the season with a perfect 17-0 record, marking the only undefeated season in NFL history, and they triumphed over the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl VII. Back-to-Back Titles: They followed up their perfect season by clinching Super Bowl VIII in 1973.

The Dan Marino Era (1983–1999)

In 1983, the Miami Dolphins selected quarterback Dan Marino, which marked the beginning of a new chapter filled with high-scoring, pass-heavy football. Marino shattered numerous NFL passing records and consistently led the Dolphins to the playoffs, including a Super Bowl XIX appearance in 1985. He spent his entire 17-year career in Miami and hung up his cleats in 1999 as the all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns.

The Post-Marino Years (2000s–Present)

After Marino's retirement, the team went through a series of coaching changes and faced challenges in recapturing its past glory, making occasional playoff appearances throughout the 2000s and 2010s. Nevertheless, the franchise has continued to be a competitive presence in the AFC East.
