The history of the Madden NFL 2000 Nintendo 64 (N64) video game cartridges

The Nintendo 64 (N64) game cartridges, officially referred to as "Game Paks," were introduced concurrently with the console. They were first made available in Japan on June 23, 1996, followed by North America on September 29, 1996, and finally in Europe/Australia on March 1, 1997. The N64 marked the last significant home console to predominantly use cartridges until the Nintendo Switch in 2017.

The sizes of the cartridges and notable historical information are as follows: from 1996 to 1997, they varied between 4 to 12 megabytes; in 1998, they were upgraded to 32 megabytes; and from 1999 onwards, they achieved a maximum capacity of 64 megabytes. The lifespan of physical production for N64 Game Paks extended from 1996 until 2002. The legacy of Nintendo 64 cartridges originates in the retail outlets where they could be rented during the 90s.

The Nintendo 64 (N64) was launched in Japan on June 23, 1996, and in North America on September 29, 1996, with a retail price of $199.99. Celebrated for its advanced 3D architecture, it was a pioneer in the use of the analog stick and supported 4-player local multiplayer gaming. Although it utilized costly cartridges instead of CDs, its legacy is highlighted by iconic games such as Super Mario 64.
