John Madden's push for 11-on-11 realism transformed sports football gaming forever. Created by EA Sports, the series gained NFL licensing in 1993 and became a yearly favorite. Madden also introduced legendary features like Franchise Mode in 1998 and Madden Ultimate Team in 2010, raking in billions over three decades. Madden NFL 2000 is a football video game created by EA Tiburon. Published by EA Sports back in 1999 for platforms like PlayStation, Nintendo 64, and Microsoft Windows.
(1984–1988) The Vision: In 1984, EA’s founder Trip Hawkins reached out to John Madden for a realistic football simulation. However, Madden turned down the idea of a “7-on-7” arcade game and wanted 11-on-11 realism in the game performance. John Madden had a new requirement for his Madden NFL Football gaming series: Madden insisted on a true 11-on-11 game, which over time, pushed back development due to tech constraints. The Launch: John Madden Football hit the market in 1988 for Apple II, later achieving huge success on Sega Genesis in 1990 and Super Nintendo in 1991. Available on PlayStation, Nintendo 64, PC, Macintosh and Game Boy Color.
